OFFICERS ENTERTAINED.
NAVY LEAGUE AND FRENCH CLUB
In conjunction with the French Club, the Auckland branch of the Navy League held a soiree in the Penwomen's Clubrooms last night in honour of Cap-
tain Plante and the officers of the French sloop Ri<rault de Genouilly.
The stage of the Penwomen's Club was decorated with the French tricolour and on either eide the Union Jack and the New Zealand flag were hung. Bowls of golden chrysanthemums completed the decorative scheme. On the arrival of the guests of honour the Marseillaise was sung, the music being played by Mrs. W. 11. McKinney.
The guests were received by Commander C. H. T. Palmer, president of
the Navy League, and Mr. G. S. Coldham, president of the French Club. They were accompanied by Mrs. Palmer, who was wearing a tunic frock of black flamisol silk and Oriental brocade , , and by Mrs. Coldham, who was wearing a frock of sea green crepe suede. Brief addresses of welcome were, made by Commander Palmer and Mr. Coldham. and Captain Plante thanked -tlinsc. present for the welcome extended to him and his officers.
An enjoyable programme was arranged for the eveninjr. A Maori welcome was jriven by Mrs. H. T. Kin jr. solos by Miss. Joan Moody, a French monologue by Mise Mary Pilkington. a duologue by Miss Mary Pilkington and Mr. S. M. Y. Hamlin; and a comedy in two acts, "La Dane de Bronze and le Monsieur do Cristal," by Mrs. G. S. Coldham and Messrs. G. S. Coldhnm. N. B. Body, R. G. Coldham and E. E. Bilkley. The accompanist.* were Mrs. W. TI. McKinney and Miss Winifred Cooke.
