YOUTH BROTHERHOOD Royalty Patronise Boy Scout Movement. FUNDS TO CARRY ON WORK. British Offlci.il Wireless. RUGBY, May 1. The Boy Scout Fund, headed by a subscription from the King and Queen, was launched at a meeting at the Mansion House, attended by the Duke of Kent and presided over by the Lord -Mayor, Sir Harry Twyford. It is 30 years since the movement was initiated by the Chief Scout, Lori Baden Powell, and it has spread to 48 countries.

The movement is to-day a brotherhood of the world's youth, the members numbering more than 3,000,000. Since the beginning of scouting, the units of troops have been largely self-supporting. However, the expense of training adult helpers—in the United Kingdom there are 65,000 voluntary workers —falls on the headquarters, which % also is responsible for the purchase and upkeep of camping sites and for specialised work among crippled boys, the blind and homeless and the sons of unemployed people. It costs the boy scout headquarters £25,000 a year to guide and help the movement, which exceeds its income by £7500. Deficits at present are made good out of legacies and capital. The aim of the present fund is to place scouting on a sound basis for all time.

£50,000 DONATION.

LORD NUFFIELD'S PROMISE.

LONDON 1 , May 1. Viscount Nuffield has promised to give £50,000 to the boy scouts' appeal, provided the fund reaches the objective of £500,000. The King and Queen, the Princess Royal, the Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and the Duke of Connaught head the subscription list.
