QUIET, BUT STEADY. N.Z. INSURANCES LOWER. A moderate list of sales was recorded at the first call of the Auckland Htoek Exchange, this morning, and fresh bidding was steady, with little nltcrntinn in values compared with week-end quotations. In the banking buyers for Commercials raised their offers Id, to Jli 3. Zealanda showed no reaction to the dividend announcement, being again quoted between £2 3/6 and £2 4/. In insurances, New Zealand* eased further, selling (id down, at £2 18/6. Auckland Gas opened the week with buyers still in at 19/7, sellers holding firm at par. . Australian metal shares were easier, but Glass nnd Sugars maintained a firm front, the former with buyers at £4 11/6 and no sellers', and tho latter with a market between £4S and £48 10/. Iron and Steel preferences were quoted ex dividend, t'roin £1 7/ to £1 8/. Mucky, Logans were quoted ex dividend, and bnyprs adjusted their offers, to £13. sellers 1 (i higher. Taramiki Oils were n-.-ier. being on sale at 7/6, buyers stopping ai ~>. Government stock* had a keen inquiry, nnd the '53-'37's sold unchanged at £9S 10/. Amalgamated Brick debentures were firmer, buyers advancing to £9'2 10.', both for Auckland and Wellington issues. Colonial Sugars Higher. The only notable feature of a quiet noon call was a sale of Colonial Sugar, showing a, rise of £15/ since last they sold on the Exchange. Auckland Gas were a fraction firmer, with buyers at 10/8, but the contributing shares were quoted lower, between 13 9 and 14/4.
