SHOOTING OPENING.

SPORT AT RANGIRIRI.

ONE BAG OF 65 BUCKS.

Although tlio shooting season opened ;it t; a.m. to-day, it was impossible to gauge (liis afternoon what success had been obtained by sportsmen around Auckland. Telephone inquiries made at Rangiriri were unsuccessful, as none of the parties which set out at dawn were expected back until to-night. A message from the "Star's" Hamilton correspondent states that scores of Waikato sportsmen were on the waterways before dawn to-day, but conditions for the opening of the season were not ideal. During the morning several good bags of duck and swan were obtained, and most of the shooters concentrated on these birds. Those who sought quail and pheasant were fairly successful for an opening day.

One p;irt.y staving at Rangiriri came from as far afield as Wellington. Moet of the shooting was carried on some distance from the township, and the only party seen during the morning reported a bap: of O.> ducks and seven swans. Many sportsmen arrived with trailers and caravans attached to their cars, and settled down for lengthy etays.
