CHESS CLUB.
OPENING OF SEASON. The Auckland Chess Club opened its winter season on Saturday night at the clubrooms when a lightning tourney was held. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, and some exciting games were played. The final was fought out between the club's champion, Mr. C. B. Xewiek, and Mr. C. J. Taylor, Mr. Taylor gaining the decision. He was heartily applauded for the excellent fight he put up.
