FLYING-BOAT BASE.
WELLINGTON CLAIMS
(From Our Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Thursday
An assurance that there would be every opportunity for evidence in support of the claims of Wellington as a terminal for aircraft from overseas to bo heard by the committee of inquiry investigating the suitability of Wellington Harbour as a flying-boat base was given by the Minister of Marine, the Hon. P. Fraser, to a. deputation representing the Wellington City Council, the Wellington Harbour Board and the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, which waited upon him. The deputation was taken by Mr. Fraser for the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage. Mr. Traser assured the deputation that they would be given every opportunity to give evidence before the committee. The way the advocates of Wellington had advanced its claims as an air terminal was very commendable, and although they naturally wanted to see Wellington the landing place they were prepared to accept expert opinion. The Government would have to give the predominant weight to the opinion of experts and considerations of safety.
