TEAROOM TALES.
CHARACTER READING. POLICE MATRONS NUMBERS. The police matron's lucky numbers are 7. S and 9. At least, so she was told in i a city tearoom recently. She was also told that she would be receiving a letter from over the water, would hear of an engagement, also a wedding. This was mentioned this morning in the Police Court by Sub-Inspector Fox. when Mey Lewis, represented by Mr. Clarke, pleaded guilty to a charge of fortune telling. The eub-inspeetor said that the matron had gone to the tearoom, but her cup had not been read by the defendant. The latter had given a character reading after, getting a sample of the handwriting of the police matron. The defendant was fined £2 and costs. Isabel Russell, proprietor of the tearoom, was fined -£] and costs. Her counsel (Mr. Clarke) said she had employed Lewis to character readings, but unfortunately, unknown to her employer. Lewis had gone a little too far and told fortunes.
