He urged a frank recognition of Canada's obligations to the Empire. "Without the Km]lire, civilisation would perish," he said. Regarding his trip to Australia, he stated that lie went by a United States vessel to learn the competition that Canada faces. He was convinced that swifter transportation to the Antipodes was urgent.
