BOWLING.

NATIONAL COUNCIL.

NEXT YEAR'S EXECUTIVE.

N.Z. TOURNEY HERE 1939,

At a meeting of delegates to the Auckland Bowling Centre last evening the following were nominated for election as officers and councillors "of the Now Zealand Bowling Association for th o coming year, the election to take place during the last week in May: —President, Mr. F. A. Hosking; treasurer, Mr. S. Coldicutt; councillors, Messrs. A. K. Whilten and W. J. Truscott.

It may be taken for granted that the president and treasurer will be elected unopposed, for although all of the 22 centres in the Dominion have a legal right to send nominations that right has never yet been exercised, there being a tacit understanding that the centre which will be the headquarters of the association during the coming year, and will, therefore, conduct the Dominion tournament, should be the best judges as to who are the most suitable officers for those responsible positions. Similarly it may be taken for granted that >Ir. M. J. Casey will be elected vice-president unopposed, having been nominated by the Wellington Centre about a fortnight ago. for Wellington will be the headquarters after Auckland, and will conduct the Centennial Dominion tournament of 1940. so Mr. Casey will lxelected unopposed next year as president for that season. «suin on the nomination ot the Wellington Centre.

The two councillors nominated last evening are not quite in the same position as the principal officers, for they have to stand their chance among all tincouncillors nominated by the eleven centres in the Xorth Island. This incus that if there aro more th.Tn seven nominated the votes will W cast by the whole eleven centres. However, there hns never be<Mi a case where the electors of either Island have turned down the two nominated by the eotnina headquarters centre, so Messrs. Whitteu and Truscott may be regarded as already elected. If they wore not duly elected in this way every year it would make it very difficult to conduct the business, for they and the principal officers form the executive for the year to manage the afT.iirs between the meetings of the full council, and four are quite few enough to make all the decisions required.

The weret-ary is always appointed by the council itself at the annual meeting and this will be held during the first week in July, the actual date to be fixed by the incoming president. The council always accepts tho nominee of the local members as secretary, so the lour men nominated last night virtually ca*y that great responsibility.

It was incidentally mentioned at the meeting that the nominee will be Mr. <J. L. (iladding. secretary of tho Auckland Centre, who was Dominion secretary four years ago, when Auckland was last the headquarters of the association.

So it i« Auckland's turn to have the national tourney here next January.
