THEY'RE OFF.
RUGBY UNION TEAMS.
START OF CHAMPIONSHIP.
GRAFTON FI*A.YS HOLDER.
The Auckland Rugby Football Union's championships start to-morrow, and after last week's excellent pipe-openers all four matches should be keenly contested. Special interest attaches to the meeting of North Shore and 'Varsity At Devonport, in view of the protest by Technical College Old ttoys (who finished in front of them in the 1937 Gallaher Shield) against relegation to the second division.
The main attraction is the meeting of Grufton with I'onsonby, last year's champion side. The game on the adjoining field at Eden Park will see Grammar School's Old Boys tackle Manukau, another of last winter's outstanding combinations.
The remaining first division fixture is the Otahuhu-Marist engagement at Sturges Park.
Second division arrangements:—Takapuna v. Parnell, at Taknpuna: Xorthcote v. College Rifles, at Oribble-Hirst Park; Suburbs v. Technical Old Boys, at Eden Park Xo. 3. 1.30 p.m.; Eden'v. Training College, at Kden Park Xo. 3, 3 p.m.
