DAY LABOUR.
MOTOR TESTING STATION
TENDER SYSTEM OUTVOTED. When a recommendation by the works committee was before last night's meeting of the Auckland City Council that the erection of the council's motor testing vehicle station in Fiinshawc Street he carried out by day labour, Mr. L. t'oakley moved an amendment that tenders bo called. Thte precipitated a discussion on the question of contract versus day labour, many of the Labour members of the council strenuously supporting the committee's recommendation.

Keporting to the council iji March, the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, estimated the ro-t of the work at £J!J4O. This did not embrace the cost of testing apparatus which, he said, had already been purchased ami was in storage.
