"NOT SO SIMPLE."
» MAORI'S PART IN THEFT. TRISON EOR THREE MONTHS. There appeared in the Police Court to-day for sentence a Maori named Gordon Robert Edwards, aged 22, on a charge of stealing £30 12/ belonging to Charles Meadlcy. Mr. Noble, appearing for the prisoner, mentioned that Edwards was a simple Maori, and that a boy of 16 had been dealt with by the Children's Court on the same charge. '"This boy led Edwards into this," said Mr. Noble. '"Although only 10 he had been to sea, and was more experienced than Edwards. The boy had previously been lined £5 for theft." "Edwards is not so simple," Mr. F. K. Hunt said. "He stole this money from* a trawler. How would you like to lose £30 1" " » ;, ■■ ; Mr. Noble: I don't suppose I would ever have that much. (Laughter.) Edwards was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. i
