SHARP FALL.
OUTPUT OF BUTTERTE AWAMUTU DAIRIES. DRYING-OFF COWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TK AWAMUTU, this day. The Te Awamutu Co-operative Dairy Company. Limited, records a phenomenal jdrop in its output of butter for the curI rent month, in the opinion of the secreI tary-manager. Mr. A. J. Sinclair, this is I due to many suppliers drying oft' cows affected by facial eczema. "For the ten months ending March 31. 1938.'' said Mr. Sinclair, "wo made 2362 tons of butter, compared with 157,5 tons
f " r _\'i° same period last year, the increase of 787 tons being equivalent to exactly 50 per cent. In the month of March this year we made 24S tons, compared with 173 tons for the same month last year, an increase of 44 per cent. "For the first 25 days in April this year we made 113 tons of butter, compared with 103 tons for the same period last year, an increase of only !) per cent. This increase took place in the first ten days of the month and for the past week we have actually been making less butter than we made in the same week last, year, although 0111- suppliers have increased from 370 to 535. We have never experienced such a drastic drop even in the driest seasons, and there is no doubt that many suppliers are rapidly drying off their dairy herds."
