SLOW PROGRESS.
NEW FIRE STATION.
QUESTION OF POSSESSION.
Reference was made to the proposed new central fire station in Pitt Street for the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board' in the annual report at yesterday's meeting of the board. Mr. J. J. Kingston was in the chair.
It was stated that, owing to various causes, progress had been slow in clearing the site, mainly owing to delay in obtaining possession of the various premises.
The owners agreed with the board, except in two cases, as to the price of purchase. The two remaining properties were taken over under the Public Works Act and the values would require to be settled by the Compensation Court. With one exception all the buildings had been removed from the site.
Plans for levelling, erection of retaining walls, and the new station buildings were in course of preparation by the architects.
