Mr. C. Bruce Smith returned from a business visit to Wellington by the Limited cxpr:?ss this morning.
Dr. T. Derrick has been appointed by the Auckland Hospital Board to the position of examiner of applicants for relief.
Sir Cyril Ward, of Christchurch, will leave Auckland by the Franconia to-day on a business visit to England. He will be accompanied by Lady Ward.
Mr. X. C. Holland, of Xapier, has arrived in London to take a postgraduate course in ophthalmic optics at the London Refraction Hospital.
Mr. J. A. Lindsay, district traffic: manager of railways at Invercargill since 1931, will retire at the end of this month on completing 40 years' service.
Mr. A. C. B. Smithson. of the Public Works Department, Masterton, has been appointed assistant engineer to the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board.
The Rev. L. McMaster. formerly of the Onehunga Presbyterian Church, has been recommended for appointment to the charge of the Kaiapoi church for three vears.
Mr. F. G. Farrell. president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), and Mr. A. Grayson, a member of the council, returned from Wellington by the Limited express this morning.
Mr. Lneien Roux, managing director of a well-known firm of wine merchants, of Cognac, is paying a business visit to the Dominion. He will leave Auckland on Mav 13 bv the Monterey.
Mr. T. C. Howard, assistant secretary of the Auckland Employers' Association. has been transferred temporarily to Xew Plymouth as relieving secretary of the Xew Plymouth Employers' Association.
Dr. M. H. Watt, Director-General of Health, is making a tour of North Auckland to meet various hospital boards. He is accompanied by Dr. C. H. Gilbert!, medical officer of health for North Auckland.
Dr. H. M. Buchanan, honorary psychiatrist at the Auckland Hospital, has been granted six months' leave of absence by the Hospital Board. Dr. J. C. D. Macky was appointed to fill the position during Dr. Buchanan's absence.
The Rev. T. E. Riddle, of the Punjab, moderator designate of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and Mrs. Riddle, who are at present on holiday in the New Hebrides, are due in New Zealand on June 15 on long furlough.
Mr. George Mills, former Mayor of Birkenhead, thanked members of the borough council for their expressions of goodwill, and stated that he was making good recovery from the the injuries sustained in a motor accident early this, year, in a letter read at a meeting of the council. Dr. W. J. Wiley, of the Australian Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, who has been attached to the staff of the Xew Zealand Dairy Research Institute for some time under a reciprocal arrangement, left for Australia this | week to attend two important con- | ferences. He will return to New Zealand Lin June.
