MALICIOUS ALARM PROBLEM. | For the rear ended March 31, 1938. the income of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board was £41.300. and the expenditure was £40.491. leaving a surplus of £809 15/4. This was stated in the annual report at the meeting of tlie board to-day. Mr. J. J. Kingston presided.
The total amount of premiums returned by the insurance companies carrying on business within the Auckland Metropolitan Fire District. a< rcv/ved during 193t>, amounted to £207.-" ! 32 The percentage cost to the insurance companies was £8 17/4. The report for the year l>y the superintendent, Mr. AY. L. Wilson, stated thai the brigade had attended 950 cal>. increase of 228 over the prev'ous yeir. Of the total 284 were property fires: 280 were grass or rubbish: 7" were chimneys; 31 were electrical fault ■: 277 wer • false alarms, and two were r.ut.-id': th ' board's area. Of the fal-i alarms 178 were of a justified nature, and 99 were maliciously given. There had been one succs -st\:l prosecution for giving a malicious fals_' alirm. The reports were adojited.
