The Trades Union Congress celebrates its 70th anniversary this vear. and the general secretary reviews its history in a booklet just published. When in 1808 the first conpress was held in Manchester, there were 34 delepates represcntinp a total membership of 118.307. At Norwich last year 623 delegates represented 214 affiliated unions with a total membership of 4.008,047, an increase of 394,190 over the figures of the previous year. The conpress anticipates that at the time of the meeting at Blackpool next September it will be able to show a further considerable increase in membership.
