ADDRESS CRITICISED.

MR. SAVAGE'S SPEECH. A "PREPOSTEROUS CLAIM." (From Our Correspondent.) TAURAXGA, Tuesday. "Mr Savage no doubt hopes his superannuation scheme will be a trump card of election year, but his hopes are doomed to failure," said Mr. F. W Doidge, National party candidate for the Tauranga seat, when addressing a largely-attended meeting at Ilillsdene. At this moment as the sponsor of that scheme Mr. Savage is like a m m who had jumped into mid-air without a parachute." added Mr. Doidge. "Mr. Savage's electioneering speech over the air last Wednesday night pr >- vided an example of what' that monopoly means," he continued, referring to the Government's monopoly >f broadcasting. "The speech was widely advertised, with the result that pro'iably thousands of people listened iii. The speech was one which manv unthinking people would accept at face value, yet there was scarcely n statement made by the Prime Minister which would bear the test of analysis." Mr. Doidge said that throughout his national broadcast Mr. Savage had sought to convey the impression that the last administration was entirely responsible for the years of depression and that the return to prosperity Tvas due to the wisdom of the present administration. Every thinking man and woman knew how preposterous that claim was.

"Another astonishing claim by Yir. Savage was that the Government hid lived within its means and that there had been no increase in borrowing," said Mr. Doidge. "How is that statement to be satiated with Mi*. Savage's announcement made a Meek previous v that the Government had made f11,500.000 available by the use of public credit ?"
