UNLUCKY CLERK.
PAID £13 TOO MUCH. TOTALISATOR MISTAKE. A totalisator clerk who made a mistake in paying out at Avondale on Saturday will have to lead a saving and Spartan existence for some time—unless the punter who was overpaid £13 is an honest man. The mistake occurred when it was time for the pay-out on the seventh race. The punter handed in three tickets on No. 8, which had run second. The winner was No. 3. Just at that moment the totalisator clerk ran short of change and turned away to get it. When he faced the window once again he had become confused as to the number and kept thinking of the three tickets instead of the number on them. Without thinking he paid out on No. 3, the first horse, and the better turned away from the window with £13 more thin he. should have got. The clerk instantly realised his mistake and called to the man, but it was too late. The better had left. Unless the money is refunded the loss will have to be made good by the totalisator clerk.
