AUCKLANDER'S SUCCESS.
MODEL AEROPLANE RECORD.
New Zealand model aeroplane enthusiasts took pride to-day in the success achieved by one of their number in contests being held in Australia. A Press Association cablegram from Sydney announces that V. B. Gray, of Auckland, broke an Australian and New Zealand record for a model aeroplane Indoor flight, liis machine remaining aloft for 11 minutes 23 1-5 seconds. "I'm sure I am voicing the feelings of all our members when I express my pride in Vernon Gray's achievement." commented Mr. F. C. Macdonald. chairman of the management committee of the Xew r Zealand Model Aeroplane Association.
I "This is the first time a team has I been seht away from the Dominion. Three Auoklanders have gone over to 1 Australia—Gray, who is manager of the team, R. E. Allen and S. Eade. "Gray has been flying his models with the Auckland Model Aeroplane Club for six or seven years." added Mr. Macdonald. "Two years ago he won the Moffett International Trophy in America; but on that occasion lie sent his 'plane away and it was flown by proxy. Allen and Eade, too. have outstanding records in their hobby." The record announced in the cable, he
<said, appeared to be a fuselage model ■ record, since Gray liad already registered i just on 15 minutes with a spar model ■in the Auckland Town Hall. Fuselage models usually had a wing span ranging from 20 to 25 inches, relying for their power on twisted rubber strands. An amazing tiling about tlieni was their extremely light weight; in complete form, each would weigh only one-thirtieth of an ounce.
