BAY OF PLENTY CLUB

THE SECOND DAY.

LLANGOLLEN WINS AGAIN. TOSH TAKES OPEN SPRINT. TTip chief features of the second day of the Bay of Plenty Hating Club's autumn meeting at T.iurang.i was tin' line performance of the jockey L. H. Clifford in piloting the winner of the first three flat events, and also the splendid effort of Llangollen in annexing the Homes Memorial, aftor having scored in the Tailranga Cup on the first day. Tosh, who ha« been racing most consistently, was successful in the open sprint, the Railway Handicap, while the Motiti Handicap went to the improving i'hilcourt. There Wins a large attendance, and the track was in

good order.

During the day the totalisator handled the sum of £23,417. as against £21.442 10 on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £1974 10.. The total for the meeting was £33,733 10 , compared with £49,700 last year, an increase of £39;.>3 10/'.

Llangollen, who li.is registered many creditable performance* during the past few weeks, added another to the list when she annexed the Herries Memorial. She was always \fiihin striking distance of the leaders, and once in line ran right away to win easily by a length and a half. Her success was attained in ef'torllcss fashion, and she seems certain to gain further prominence in the future. Airam ran her race for some months, and fiat tied ou very courageously in the straight. Grateful was handily placed all the way, and hung on we'll, but iybalt, after making play practically from barrier rise, weakened into fourth position.

The Stewards' Handicap went to a promising hack in Advance Acre, who had ■won at the first time of asking on the first clay. On this occasion he quickly b'lt the front, and the pressure was applied ran on solidly to win by a couple of lengths. He is a smooth galloper, of -whom more should be heard. Trevace, Tvho was having his second start of the day, displayed plenty of speed, and hung on" well, while Chief Lap was in the picture from the start. Barricade, the favourite, was showing up at the home turn, but weakened.

In a small field Racotte ran to the front shortly after the stir.*, and wag never afterwards headed in the Matakana Highweight Handicap. Her succese was overdue. Full of Scotch ran right up to his .first day's form, and he was not disgraced, hut Hutana, who was backed down to a short price, failed to come on in the straight. The others never flattered their supporters. ' Philcourt, who has shown plenty of promise in his last few starts, scored his first success when he annexed the Motiti Handicap. He was much improved as the result of his race on the first day, and he fought on really well under pressure. Eastern Heir ran his usual honest race, hut the favourite, Jayola, was unlucky, as he was carried off the course at the turn, just when he looked like taking part in the finish. Never further hack than fourth Tosh finished splendidly to win the Railway Handicap. It wan a good performance •under his big impost, and the gelding is Tacing most consistently at present. 1 nuno | came home well frotfl near the Johnny Walk was in the. picture-through-out, while Trilliarch had every ehanee.
