FOUR-UNIT STATE HOMES.
COUNCIL FIRM IN OBJECTION
The Auckland City Council last night decided to maintain its objections to certain features of a l'oint Chevalier State
housing project,
In connection with the sclieine on property fronting I'clham Avenue, Roma and Shakespeare Roads, the Director of Housing Construction submitted a further plan of a proposed four-house unit, which he contended bore no resemblance to the "row development," to which the council had earlier objected.
"If this plan were submitted by a private concern the application would be —and in such cases has been —rejected as a non-compliance with the council s requirements under the zoning scheme," commented the city engineer, Mr. .1. Tvler. It appeared certain that in the finalised zoning scheme no building containing more than two unite would be permitted.
The council agreed that the proposed form of construction could not be approved.
The same point arose, and the same objection was raised, in the case of a four-house unit included in another scheme for the Sunshine estate, Point Chevalier. Other buildings planned there are 29 single-family houses and five twounit houses.
