REGISTRAR'S RECORD. MR. F. EVANS RETIRING. NEARLY 4O YEARS' SERVICE. During a period of 26 years as registrar of births, death* and marriages at Auckland and Christchurca, Mr. Frank Evans, registrar at Auckland, who is to Tetire on superannuation on March 31, officiated at 10,000 weddings. "By tying the knot for 20,000 people I hope I have done something towards adding to the sum of human happiness," he casually remarked this morning.

In addition to being registrar of deaths, births and marriages, Mr. Evans is registrar of electors and paesport officer. He was born at Rochdale, England, and came to New Zealand in 1899. He was private secretary to the late Rt. Hon. B. J. Seddon from 1900 to 1902, and private secretary to the late Et. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward from 1902 to 1906. He left the latter position to become the finet chief clerk in the Electoral Department, Wellington. In 1912, while holding the office of deputy-chief electoral officer, Mr. Evans was appointed to the post of registrar of births, deaths and marriages at Chrietchurch. He was also registrar of electors and returning officer for Christchurch North, and registrar for the Southern Maori electorate, comprising the whole of ihe South Island. , Mr. Evans was engaged in connection with the Expeditionary Forces election at Sockbum and Aldington camps in 1914. In 1920 he was transferred to Auckland ae registrar of births, death* and marriages, registrar of electors and paesport officer, acting , as returning officer for both Auckland East and Auckland Central electorates at different times, and for the Auckland licensing district, prior to the registration work ot nine Auckland electoral districts being centralieed in his office in 1925.
