MATUA ARRIVES.
ISLAND KING ON BOARD. HEALTH VISIT TO AUCKLAND. After a good trip, the Union Steam Ship Company's trading vessel Matua arrived in Auckland this morning from her usual island circuit. On board was Mnkaentii Ttniraii Ariki, paramount chief or king of the, island of Rarotonga. He m in Auckland for health reasons, and will probably be here for several months. At the fefiip he was met by Judge Ayson, former Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands. King Makaemii ie a grand-nephew of the late Queen Makea, who ceded the island to the British. Travelling to take up an important position in the Solomon lelands, Mr. R. Hyne was also a passenger. Formerly Chief 'Justice at Tonga, Mr. Hyne hae been appointed Judicial Commissioner, the principal legal position in the Solomons. He is accompanied bv Mrs Hyne. ' Mr. G. R. Edmonds, who has been acting-managpr for the Union Steam Ship Company at Rarotonga, is returning to the head office at Wellington. He ie accompanied by his wife and eon.
