Who will be the next General of the Salvation Army in succession to 72-years-old General Evangeline Booth?

She is to. retire next Christmas under the Army regulations age limit, and throughout the world Salvationists are lining up to give support to the proposed nominations of several of the forty-six commissioners who are officially equally in the running for leadership.

At Army headquarters in London a reporter was told: "The procedure is for the High Council to be called to consider nomination! This eonncil consists of officers working in every quarter of the globe. The High Councii will not meet until the autumn."

Commissioner John McMillan, second in command of the Salvation Army, is looked upon in many quarters as a probable successor to General Eva.

This 63-years-old Glasgow man, who entered the Army in Canada 49 years ago, and rose to the Canadian command, was appointed to his present position a year ago. He was nominated for the Generalship at the last High Council, but withdrew in favour of Miss Eva Booth.

Others believe Commissioner Charles Rich a likely candidate. He is Commissioner for the whole of the British Isfts.

A third close in the running is Chancellor of the Exchequer, Commissioner George Troth.

It is generally admitted that nothing can equal the amazing activity and genius of the present woman General of the Army.

She puts in an eigliteen-hour day for her beloved Army. And in addition she writes, composes words and music for stirring Salvation Army hymns.
