FIFTY KILLED.
NINE MONTHS' TOTAL. PEDESTRIAN DEATH RATE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) , BLENHEIM, Friday. An investigation into the 5 0 fatal accidents to pedestrians that occurred between April 1 and December 31 last year was the subject of a statement issued to-night by' the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple. He said it was the most comprehensive investigation of its kind ever carried out in New Zealand. "Pedestrians over 40 will have to l>e more than usually careful if the figures are any guide," Mr. Senvple said. "Apart from Christmas and New Year's Eve, the winter months are easily the most dangerous for the pedestrian. "The stark fact standing put from the statistics is the tragic death rate of elderly men and women. To all those who are getting on in years and to motor drivers and motor cyclists I would address an appeal to be particularly Careful, especially at night when it is wet."
