POLO TEAM FOR SYDNEY. PREPARATIONS IN WAIKATO. (By i Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. As about £500 —half the amount required—had been donated, it seems certain that a Waikato polo team will be able to go to Sydney to compete as New Zealand representatives in the Centenary Gold Cup. Arrangements are being made to select seven players during the Savile Cup tournament, opening at Claudelands on Monday. In addition to a substantial donation from the Waikato Hunt Club, members of the qlub have personally donated an extra £20. Over £350 has been promised by individual supporters of the sport in the Waikato. Details received here indicate that the Sydney tournament will be one of the finest ever staged. Teams from New Zealand. Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales are expected to contest the Gold Cup, while the participation of teams from the East and Honolulu is possible. It is understood that the famous Ashton brothers, who represented Australia in a recent English tour, will not play as a team.
