NORTH SHORE MILK. i COUNCIL INVESTIGATION*. Figures demonstrating the pure quality of the milk sold on the North Shore were given at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council this morning. The chairman, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, explained that a dispute had occurred at the last meeting of the council, when it had been stated that the quality of North Shore milk waR [such that an epidemic had been possible. I "Tests taken at intervals over a period of seven months, during which 409 samples of raw, unpaoteurised milk were examined, showed an average fat content of 4.9 and a bacteria count of 52,€00," said the chairman. "There is nothing better than, tliig in any part of the world. The public should know the position. The Health Department standard for fat content is 3.25. First grade milk in the United States when tested was shown to have a 50,000 bacteria count; in England the count was 200,000."'

Mr. E. F. Andrew*, who made the reference to the quality of the inilk at the last meeting, explained tiiat he bad been referring to an isolated case, and not to the general standard of the North Shore supply.
