HOBBY IS DOGS.
NEW YORK WOMAN. i FAVOURS WIRE TERRIERS. TWO WERE SENT TO JAP AH. i "It's only a hobby—but it brings me into contact with the most" interesting people. They know of my dogs, even if they don't know of me." This is a story of the happiness which fame has brought Mrs. Richard C Bondy, of Oolden's Bridge, New Yor'.:— fame as a dog fancier and breeder, with a special inclination towards wire-haired fox terriers. Mrs. Bondy is travelling by the Monterey on a holiday visit to Australia. She likes the "wire" because it's a dog that is a regular fellow. T«.y dogs have their place, she said thii morning, and they are well suited to people who live in eity apartments. But the "wire"—and the smooth-haired terrier, too, for that matter —is small enough to keep in the city and at the same time most adaptable to country life. In short, "He's a regular fellow.*' Mrs. Bondy is especially proud of t ,v u "wires" she sent to England. To-day, she says, many prize-winning terriers have been sired by their progeny. For ' it was 12 years ago that she took up this hobby. Recently an order came from Japan! for another two. Mrs. Bondy tried to i have them shipped across America by air and then flown to the Orient in the C hina Clipper, but the air lines regretted j that regulations prevented this. H.»v. - j ever, she put the transport arrange- ; nients in the hands of an express coin -' ■pauy, and the dogs reached their desti Jation in perfect condition. "We hiave not sent any yet to Australia or New Zealand." said Mrs. Bondy, 'although we did have an inquiry once. But my great pride is in the two we sent to England, which -were a success even if it did seem like send ing coals to Newcastle."
