RULETTE CARRIES TOO MUCH OVERWEIGHT.

WON AND LOST ST. PATRICK S Racing at Paeroa —- King Rey Takes Ohinemuri Cup. There was a rather unique sequel to the St. Patrick's Handicap, the open sprint, run on the first day of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's annual meeting, which opened at Paeroa yesterday. Rulette weighed out with 7.6J, which included 1 £lb overweight She and the favourite, Llangollen, had a great battle down the straight, Rulette scoring by a neck. On weighing in her rider, C. L. Goulsbro, was found to turn the scale at 7.9, and in consequence Rulette had to be disqualified for the race, Llangollen being placed first, Tosh second and Lornacre third. Rule 272, part 4, of the Rules of Racing provide that where a rider in a flat race exceeds the proper weight (that is the weight he weighed out with) by 21b, or 4lb in a hurdle race, the horse shall be disqualified, unless the stewards are satisfied that the excess was caused by wet or sweat. The supporters of Rulette were decidedly unlucky, as she was paying a nice double-figure dividend on the strayjhtout machine. King Rey won the Ohinemuri Cup in good style, while Glen Abb ran to form by annexing the Hikutaia Hack Cup, thus registering his third success in four starts. The weather was fine, there was a large attendance, and the track in excellent order. During the day the sum of £31,876 was put through the totalisator, compared with £31,993 for the first day at the corresponding meeting last year, which was a Saturday. This is a decrease of £117.

RAN TO FORM.

Gold Eagle Always in Front. OoM Eaale ran right up to form when she won the Awaiti Handicap from a 1 >ilt field. She was always in front, and held on to beat Britirh Nation l»v a short neck, with Superior Guard, who has had very little racing recently, only a head away, third. Aynho was prominent early, but dropped out in the middle stages, but she was finishing on again in fifth place. She should be harder to beat the next time out. Slam was rijrht up at the turn, and the race should improve him. King Rev was responsible for a ?ood effort in winning the Oiinemuri Cup. He was never further back than about seventh, and war; right up behind the

leaders at tlie home turn. He made • effort 011 the outside and unstayed the ■ ojiposition to beat Round l"p by "a nock'. ! while Tybalt was a similar distance away third, and Kilon>a fourth. Rmind j Up was always prominent with half the j distance covered, and it should not be , long before he ret urns to the winning j list. Tybalt ran hi* race for iconic | time. He made a fast move cro.-sinc; I the top. an<l was one of the leaders the straight, only weakening over the , last bit. The outing should impiMve ! him. Malagigi ran up smartly alunjri the liaek. and hitting the front just before the turn, stayed there until half- I down, when he tired. In the hands ! of 0. stronger horseman he may have done better. Kilnnsa was not well placed till half-way down the straight, whe-e she got through to finish on solidly in fourth position. Riotou? carried on most of the running in the Mc-G uire Steeplechase and at the turn he and 3lio Lume \\'ero six lengths dear of the remainder of the field. At this stage Riotous carried Mio Lume out wide. Tn a great finish Mio Lume pained the verdict by <1 nrvso. Both jumped splendidly and o'utclaxe.l the other>=. Lucidus was having his first, race for some time and shaped encouragingly, and he should get sump money during the winter season. Gulden Kngland was well up for a imig wav. but tired badly. Finished Solidly. After waiting in behind the leaders until the Nist furlong was. entered upon Kulette finished solidly to beat L'angrillen by a neck in the St. Patrick's Handicap. but at a sulhscquent inqitirv Kulette weighed in *21b overweight <u:d was dis ( |ualitied. Llangollen was luiving her first race in open company, and judging by her effort she should continue to pay her way in this cbi-.s. Tosh hung 011 solidly to gain second moncv. while Lornacre finished well. Taken to the riant envsing the top Te Monowai had too much .;pee<l for the ojiposition in the Komata Handicap, and won comfortably. TliU mare lias been racing most consistently and her Micees* was well deserved. Huntinginore ran h:s best race for some time, and a repetition of this forni should -non see him a. winner.
