A STRONG TEAM. Horses for Whar.garei. The Wliangarei meeting next month has greatly attracted local trainers, and no fewer than twenty horses have been nominated for the popular northern fixture. These comprise Xight Spi, Rajanva. Feldberg, Lapidarian, Huntsman's Chorus, Asset, Baclielo.- King, Solitary, Pocket Venus. Poker Dice, J Flash B\* Parquet, Ivy Willonyx, Teak, Inquisitor, Grateful, Paddy the Rip, Pamela, and Red Ledger. High Quality, who recently resumed work after a spell, is coming to hand in encouraging style, his progress being such that a quick return to form is predicted. High Quality is a good-class hurdler, capable of winning in any company, and if he remains sound his prospects during the remainder of the season look hopeful. Ivy Willonyx, who has been racing consistently, but unluckily, has not been overtaxed of late, her tasks being more or less of a light nature. Still a maiden performer, the King Willonyx filly has some excellent performances to _ her credit, and any success that should come her way would be popularly received. Valinicen has been taken along quietly, and the Vaals-Limccn filly has been improving in condition acordinglv. She had had only one race when she made an auspicious debut at Ellerslie. slight improvement upon which should lind her a force to be reckoned with in the juvenile events at the Tauranga meeting next week-end. C. Morse's recent acquisition, Mischel, has been going along satisfactorily since her arrival, but as yet has noi been asked any serious question. The Appellant filly showed speed when in training as a two-year-old last season, but so far she has failed to reproduce this in her races. Pamela, for whom a useful future was predicted earlier in the season, has

failed to fulfil expectations up to the present. The Paladin filly's inability to begin well in her races has so fur proved a disadvantage, but the racing has benefited her, and she should soou prove capable of showing improved form. Red Ledger if. another local novice who up to the present has been disappointing. By Raceful —Abbess, his form in public has not been in keeping with his true capabilities. However, he has not been favoured with the best of the running in any of his races, and he may be capable of improvement. Paddy the Rip made an inauspicious debut at the Pukekohe meeting, but he will have derived benefit from the outing, and he is likely to be seen to better advantage. A six-year-old gelding, built on very solid lines, Taddy the Rip is by Whirlwind—Danae, and with experience is likely to earn distinction in hack Company. Poker Dice, who went sore on the eve of tfie Paeroa meeting, has been nominated for the Whangarei meeting, so that it is not anticipated that he will be off the scene very long. Poker Dice has an abundance of speed, and although his form on occasions has left his admirers lamenting, until he has been well tried it would be unwise to form any adverse opinion.

Saccome lias returned to work from a good spell from which he is expected to derive benefit. The promising son of Surveyor—Adi Vunivola has yet to win, but at times has revealed form capable of winning in good company, and his future is still regarded optimistically. Up to the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting Takanini horses this season have been credited with 34 wins and £071.">. this total representing only £300 below last year's figures, an increase upon which is assured. F. Smith is at the head of the trainers' list with 10 wins and E. Pope is next with 11. Horses who have succeeded in winning over £300 are: Round Up. £100."); Hot Box. £020; Palustre. £S6."i; Valamito. £84.1: Inver. £7!).": Arvakur. £740; (hateful. £07/5: Anion. £47">: Parquet. £375; Bachelor King, £30~>; High Qualitv. £300.
