A LIKELY SORT.
PROSPECTS OF BRETHREN. TO GO TO SYDNEY. Brethren, who won the Gibson Cartnichael Stakes for Mr. Sol Green at the recent autumn meeting' at Flemington recently, will go to Sydney to run in the Sires' Produce Stakes at Randwick. With Nuffield, Brethren, Destiny Bay and Lady Montague, Melbourne stable* will be well represented in the two-year-old classics at Randwick. They will probably win more than their share of prize money. Brethren stayed on so well to win the Gibson Carmicliael Stakes and defeat Valhalla, who is regarded as one of the best of the Sydney two-year-olds, that Mr. Green decided to send his colt to Sydney. R. J. Shaw will take the chestnut in the next few weeks. Shaw is getting together a nice team of horses at Flemington (says an Australian writer), as he will train two of the high-priced Lo Zingaro colts, as well as the filly by that sire from Chivalry. Jamieson to Train. Shaw purchased the colt by Lo Zingaro from Virginal for 14()0gs for a client, and a few days ago Mr. Green gave Mr. Theo Gove loOgs on his bargain for the colt bv Lo Zingaro from Barryanda. Mr. Gove went to 1250gA for Ihe colt, and Mr. Green, wishing to own one of the best colts he has bred, bought him back. \ J. T. .Jamieson will train at Randwick the tillv by Lo Zingaro from Gallantry for a client who leased the filly from Mr. Green. The Gallantry filly is a really good sort, and is sure to gallop well. Her career on the race track will be short, as her breeder wishes to reserve her for the paddock. Mr. Green intends to sell some of his mares at Underbank. believing that it is an excellent policy to cull each year and so keep up the standard of his stud.
