STEEL INDUSTRY.
ACTING-COMMISSIONER. MR. A. PASCOE CHOSEN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. An announcement that Mr. (i. A. I'ascoe, of the Industries and Commerce Department, had been appointed actingcommissioner under the Iron and Steel Industry Act passed bv Parliament last week was made to-niglit by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. (i. Sullivan. The Act provides for the. establishment of the iron and steel industry in New Zealand as a State monopoly, and for its management by three commissioners. "Mr. Pascoe is a qualified engineer with long experience in industrial matters and organisation," said Arr. Sullivan. "One of his first duties will be to confer with H. A. Brassert and Company, Limited, to complete the initial work necessary before a commencement can be made with the project and to carry out other work of t preliminary character. The question o f finally appointing commissioners will not be considered at least until some of the preliminary work has been accomplished."
