CLERICAL WORKERS.
NEW ZEALAND AWARD. N'EGOTIATICWS NEXT MONTH. Negotiations with the employers for i Dominion clerical workers' award will jo conducted by the New Zealand Clerical Employees' Association in Wellington on February 9, 10 and 11. The various provincial unions will be represented, and Mr. A. S. Herring, secretary of the Auckland Union, will be among the representatives. is hoped that the Dominion award will have been framed by the Arbitration Court by March, in which case Auckland employees will slip without a break into the new award. The Auckland award was made a short-dated one m view of the negotiations for a Dominion award and expires next month. The Dominion claims contain several caueea that differ from the Auckland award. For one thing a forty-hour week will be sought, but where an industry permits of Saturday work the employees ask that they receive extra pay at ordinary rates for work done on Saturday mornings. Wages increases are being sought, the minimum wage asked ranging from £1 to £6 for men, compared with the Auckland award of 15/ to £5 5/, and, for women the minimum asked ranges from £1 to £3 15/, compared with the present rates of 15/ to £2 15/. Holiday Question. Endeavours are also being made to secure a fortnight's holiday instead of a week, 'and sick leave on full pay is being claimed as follows :I—Workers of under two years* service, ten days; two to ftve years' service, three weeks; five years and over, eix weeks in any i>ne year. Further leave on half pay /■>" similar period* is also claimed.
