SOLD FOR THREEPENCE.
STAMP VALUED AT £5500. (Rrceive<l 2 p.m.) -AMSTERDAM. January 30. A rare example of the famous Mauritius orange penny stamp, worth £o.">00, recently owned by a charwoman who died a pauper, has been discovered. The stamp was on a picture representing a trotting horse, and was given by a clergyman to a charwoman in 1012. Her relatives sold the picture for 3d and a butcher acquired it for 3/. and began examining the Mauritius and other stamps on the picture. He realised that some of them were valuable and sold the whole picture to a stamp expert for £900.
