I i i Fatal Looping by New Zealand Airman. INQUEST ON MR. MacFARLANE. LOXDOX, January 30. At the inquest into the death of Pilot-Officer A. X. MacFarlane, the Air Force pilot who suffered a fatal collapse after making a successful parachute descent from a crashing aeroplane in Lincolnshire, ' eye-witnesses said they saw the aeroplane loop three times, after which they heard a crack, which suggested that something had broken. Pieces dropped from the machine. Squadron-Leader Tindall stated that the bomber Mr. MaeFarlane. was using was too heavy to be looped at high speed oh there was a danger of the structure breaking. A verdict was returned of accidental death. A Press Association menage fronj Dnnedin states that PilotfOfficer MaeFarlane was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. W. MarFarlane, of Koeebank, Balc-lutha. He was '25 years ot' age and left his father's estate at Upper Clydevale a little over two years ago to join the Royal Air Force. After completing his period of training he was promoted to tbe rank of pilot-officer and was looked upon as having a promising career.
