WORK OF GIRLS' LIFE BRIGADE.

Increase Reported In Membership.

"Few fields present such an opportunity, of enriching humanity in righteousness, fellowship and service as that in which brigade officers are engaged," stated the fifth annual report of the Girls' Life Brigade, which was presented at the conference this morning. The Dominion president, Mrs. J. Oilman Dunn, presided, and before the business commenced welcomed the large number of delegates who are attending. During the year there had been an increase of four companies, 24 officers and 133 girls, the total enrolment at the end of October last being 3S> companies, 136 officers, 390 junior and 400 senior girls. Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin battalions reported a year of useful service. The Auckland Battalion had increased its strength .by three companies and Wellington by one. The Girls' Life Brigade Week, which has now. been established for four-years, again proved successful in 1937 when, during the first week in June £128 4/11 was raised. One half of this amount was sent to headquarters, the other half being retained by companies for their own use. Throughout the year close thought had been kept with International Headquarters, which made a bond of friendship that was helpful and stimulating. In reporting on cadet work, it was stated that this department had been in the able care of Mrs. Wilson, of Wellington. The sections had increased in numbers, and the new cadet uniforms approved at last conference had met with Dominion-wide approval. "The year has been one of interest, and much good work has been done," the report concluded. "We are now able to see more clearly the steps that lie ahead. The day- is fast arriving when the Girls' Life Brigade will be able to make a substantial contribution to the work of God in New Zealand, and to that end we are happy to serve." At the evening meeting on Saturday when the delegates were welcomed, Commandant Earle presided. The Rev. W. T. Blight spoke on behalf of the Auckland Sunday School Union, and Commandant Earle spoke for the Auckland Battalion. Major E. F. Blenkinsop, of London, national field organiser, was present and spoke on the history t>f the brigade and some of her experiences as field organiser.
