LEADER ARRIVES.

NATIONAL PARTY.

POLITICAL CANDIDATES.

** YOUNG, VIGOROUS TYPE."

"There seems to be a general desire that the 1938 elections should be a st I aiglit out test between the op|M>siug paities, said the leader of the New Zealand National Party, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, on his arrival in Auckland this morning. As this is election year, Mr. Hamilton has set out on a visit to each of the five divisional areas of the party's organisation. He said that the National party would b meet the election with confidence, as a very good type of young men was coming forward as candidates. The selection of a candidate was entirely a matter for each electorate, the onlv resti iction that the headquarters

imposed being that previous to the selection at least 2000 members of the party must be enrolled in the electorate, and that every member of the party 19 eligible for nomination. The object" was to get the best man available, and to give members in the electorate a free, unfettered choice. Mr. Hamilton said that the candidates already chosen, Messrs. Kerr, of Nelson. Kidd, of Waitaki, .T. Macdonald, of Mataura, and W. Sullivan, of Bay of Plenty, were of a young, vigorous type of which any electorate might be proud. On his arrival by the Limited express this morning Mr. Hamilton was met by representatives of the Auckland organisation. He conferred with the Auckland organisation this morning, and will again do so to-morrow. This afternoon" he paid a brief visit to the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting at Ellerslie. On Wednesday he may attend the Feilding Show and go back to Taihape for a meeting on Thursday.
