MATAMATA HORSES.

SCOTLAND AT ROTORUA. JOINS A. McfMtEGOR'S TEAM. J. Clothier is working a team of three horsos, Goodmarch, Broadway Bill, and Silver Lance, but only one, Broadway Bill, is nominated for the Matamata meeting. This will be his debut,, although lie has done plenty of work. Silver Lance is a three-year-old filly by Speardance— Erubji. Royal Dance has not yet recovered from his injuries, and it will probably be next month before he is ready to race again. Scotland was taken over by A. McGregor after the Thames meeting, and will in future be trained at Rotorua. He has been showing signs of returning to form during the past fortnight. Val.spear has been returned to Matamata and has been turned out. Hikutaia broke down a few days ago, and is not to be persevered with. Mr. Pat Corbett has been unlucky with this horse as he was generally recognised as one likely to reach good class, but was difficult to keep right. E. Mateer, who has not experienced the best of-luck of late, will have three representatives at the Matanrata meeting. High Spear, Val Lu and Huskie. High Speed is owned by Mr. John Hanks, who has been an owner for over three decades. Among horses he owned were Glenidle, Don't and Kereone. Val Lu is one of the biggest boned two-year-olds ever seen here, by King Lu—Valress. The latter, which never raced, is a full-sister to Valcuir. In Mateer's stable also are two yearlings, one by Foxbridge—Lady Lulu, owned by Mr. L. W. Davis, who raced the dam, and the other by Lord Quex—Caligo, therefore a half-brother to Luna- Lux. This yearling was purchased for 150 guineas by Dr. McGregor Grant at the recent Trentham yearling sales. Both these youngsters are to be operated upon by Dr. Ring before being put into work. , It was not intended to race King Rey until the Te Aroha meeting, but he is an acceptor in the Takapuna Cup, and has arrived at Ellerslie. R. Martin has this horse in capital fettle. Master Musk has been working satisfactorily during the last few weeks. He looks big and muscular, and may be given a race at, the Te Aroha meeting. Rona Bay came through her Thames racing in good condition; in fact she seems to have improved. She is nicely weighted in the Matamata Cup. J. Gray's pair, Grand City and Full o' Scotch, are regular attendants on the track. Grand City should be a prospect for the Matamata Cup with the minimum weight.
