BUSY HOLIDAY PERIOD.
COOK STRAIT TRAFFIC. (From Our Correspondent.) BLENHEIM, Thursday. An indication of the extent of holiday travel across Cook Strait by steamer and air lines, excluding the Union Airways trunk service, is given by figures covering the period from December 22 to January 5. A total of 12S0 passengers was carried by Cook Strait Airways both ways, of whom 422 flew from Wellington to Blenheim and 184 from Wellington to Nelson. The traffic to Wellington was in similar proportions.
From December 24 to January 4 2200 passengers travelled by steamer from Wellington to Picton and 1(500 from Picton to Wellington. In addition, 4000 were carried on Boxing Day and New Year's Day excursions from Wellington to Picton.
An average of 15 motor cars was transported on each trip from Wellington to Picton throughout the holidays. •Steamer passengers to Nelson from Wellington from December 22 to January 1 totalled 1660, and 1050 in the reverse direction.
