Central Europe is still freezing iand many parts are snowbound. Four men who were attempting to cross a '/agoon in Venice by gondola are trapped Jin" the ice and in danger of ireezing to» death. Efforts are being made to seeure a powerful naval boat to push tt,s way through the ice to the rescue.
Germany has experienced tlie*heaviest fall of snow for nine years. Many rivers are frozen, thus holding»up shipping.
Rumania's train services are disorganised by snow. Wolves, driven frantic by hunger, have attacked villagers and have even appeared in the suburbs of Bucharest.
Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia are covered with ice, and the Danube is thickening, shipping being suspended.
