KEEP COOL!
P High temperatures, combined with almost a maximum of humidity, have made beach and ;• bath unusually popular this summer. The one escape from oppressive heat has been the • water, and the hot sunshine, blazing upon the . sandy beaches, has warmed the incoming tides , to a degree of comfort for the bather not • experienced in Auckland for several seasons. - The water has therefore had a double appeal, an irresistible claim on all who can seek its . edge. The figures of attendances at i the baths, whose proximity to population centres is their chief attraction, cover only a ' small section of the swimmers, but they give r a fair indication of the popularity of the , pastime in these hot and humid midsummer J days. In December over thirty-five thousand • people visited the three city baths, double last year's figures, while the facilities at Mission Bay, also used by double the number of the preceding year, were taxed beyond thencapacity. Not for many years has Auckland had such a sun bath, and never has the call of the beach been answered with such emphasis.
