CORKWILL CUP. SIXTH AND SEVENTH RACES. WELLINGTON. Thursdar. Two crews In the 1038 Cornwell Cur contest now have two wins In hand, at Plimmerton nnd Tauranga won anothei race each at Plimmerton to-day. and com petition has now reached an Interesting position. Both races were sailed in a stlfl nreeie out of the north-west, and wer* marked by fine sailing. Tauranga overcame difficulties in both raoes, and their per formance In the morning race, when fhev drew from almost last to second, flnlshlni only 4s behind the winning boat, Plim - rnerton, was exceedingly good. Paremata Wellington and Auckland each have a win, and the first crew to gain three wins the SR;®'' : trophy. uy The boats went away to a good start at 0.40 a.m., Tauranga. Paremnta and Wellington crossing the line together, with the rest of the fleet only a few seconds behind. On the first run the Tauranga skipper fell overboard, but the for'ard hand quickly brought the boat Into the wind, and the skipper- clambered aboard. This mishap l«lft Tauranga almost at the tall of the fleet, but they sailed a tenacious race, and pulled Into second position in provide one of the most exciting finishes of the contest, ns they crossed the line 4s behind Plimmerton, the winner. The order the first time round the course, which was windward and lefward, was Plimmerton, Tauranga-. Wellington, otsgo. Mnnukau, Paremata, Wanganul and f'hrlstChurch. Suva did not start in either of to-day's rnces as their skipper has nti Injured hand, and was not able' to sail. The order for the second time round was PHm'merton, .'ids nbead of Tauranga, with Mnnukau. AVellington, Otago. Paremnta and Christchnrch next, with Wangnnul well behind <he lending boats. riinimerton appenred to hnve a safe margin from Tnnranga on the final bent to flie finish, but they crossed the line from the witong side and hnd to sail back, nnd rectify the mistake. They succeeded with only seconds to spare from Tauranga. The finishing times and plnclngs for the sixth race were:—Plimmerton (lOh 37m 10s). 1; Tatirnnga (lOh 37m 14s), 2: Mnnukau (10b 40m 40s), 3; Wellington (lOh 40m 545), 4: Otago flOh 41m 10h), 5: Paremata (lOh 43m ss). *1: Wanganul '10h 40m ss), 7; Christ church (lOh 40m 10s), 8. Despite the fnct that their spinnaker block at the masthead carried away on the second run on the triangular course in & , the afternoon race Tatirnnga managed to J sail into a lead that carried them over the \ line ahead of Plimmerton for first place. ■f| : '.The wind was still fresh to strong, ind ■ the race was an exciting one, ns Plimmerton put in a strong challenge to finish «&'!&• 38s behind Tauranga on the wind to the final buoy. Before the run to the tinish- -.*■ ' lng line Tauranga had mede enough head--I®-'. war to win, though they were being rapidly overhauled by Plimmerton, who i, nt i their spinnaker set. There were two ■ ' capsizes during the race, anil Auckland retired.
