MAIL IN 'FRISCO.

TRANSPORT BY CLIPPERS. SUCCESSFUL FIRST DISPATCH. Complete success has attended the inauguration of the commercial service of Pan-American Airways between Auckland and San Francisco. The Chief Post Office in Auckland lias been advised that the mail which the Samoan Clipper carried reached Honolulu in time to make the connection for the United States. By this time, therefore, it is likely that most of the mail has reached its filial destination. The rug which the Prime Minister. the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage. sent as a token of goodwill is probably now in the hands of President Roosevelt. Intimation that the .connection was made is the only advice so far received by the postal authorities, and it is not known on what day of this week the mail was taken ashore at San Francisco. The Clipper left Auckland on Sunday morning, and reached Honolulu on Tuesday. The flying-boat landed there at 11.45 in the morning, and the Martin Clipper was scheduled to leave for the Pacific Coast the same afternoon. Xo word has been received in Auckland, however, as : to whether the departure was made on [time or whether any delay was caused | by weather conditions. i The speedy transport of the first j Pacific air mail was an auspicious fea--1 ture of the start of the service. The | Clipper is due to return to Auckland next Wednesday, and to leave again with mails and freight on Saturday. Thereafter departures will be made i every alternate Saturday.
