WARM DECEMBER.
ERRATIC RAINFALL
HIGH TEMPERATURES. (From Our Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. "The final month of 1037 was one of the warmest Decembers ever recorded in the Dominion." states, the Government meteorologist, in his monthly summary. "Although the rainfall totals were erratic, compared with the average, most districts received pood falls at some time or other. High temperatures led to rapid drying in the fin'; spells in some areas, especially in the North Island, but there was an absence of drying winds. Crops are generally doing well now and there is an abundance of feed.
"Conditions in the North Island varied considerably, and places which had more or less than average rainfall were about equally divided.
"Temperatures were much above normal. In the Auckland and Taranaki Provinces the excess amounted in many places to 4deg., and. except in Canterbury and Otago. the departures were generally above 2deg. Fahrenheit. Many very high temperatures were recorded. Christmas Eve was very hot in ports of the South Island, as wn» Christmas at places further north. Blenheim record"d !)3..Vleg. on Christmas Day.
"In the Auckland Province the sunshine was very much above norma:. Tauranga had 304.4 and llotorua 254.3 hours."
