Sir George Elliot has left England on a business visit to South Africa. Mr. W. A. Hislop left Auckland for Wellington by the early express yesterday. The Rev. W. M. bmallfield. vicar of the Wanganui district, is visiting Auckland. Mr. F. M. Clarke arrived in Auckland by the Centaurus yesterday. He is at the Grand Hotel. Dr. E. Bee by, director of th<» New Zealand Council lor Educatioml Research, has returned to Wellington from the South. \lr. C. White, of Wellington, was a passenger by the Centauries to Auckland yesterday and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. F. B. Dwyer. of the Department of Internal Affaire?, tra\eiled to Auckland from Wellington by the Centaurus yesterday and is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. C. (i. Macindoe left for Wellington by the early express this afternoon en a business visit. He expects to return to Auckland on Saturday morning. The Chief Justice. Sir Michael Myers, accompanied by Lady Myers, arrived in Auckland by car from the South yesterday afternoon. They proceeded north to-day. Mr. A. L. Fitch, the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre's coach, is visiting Blenheim. After coaching for a week there, he will spend another week in Xelson. Mr. E. W. Hullett, chief chemist at the Wheat Research Institute, has. returned to Chrietchurch after spending nine months abroad. While away he studied research in Canada, the United States, England and Europe. Sir John Mavnard Hedstrom has resigned from the legislative Council and Executive Council of Fiji, having been a member of the former since 190S and of the latter since 1917. Sir Mavnard was born in Levuka over 6o years ago. Mr. P. Xesbitt, managing director of a large Loudon company, who recently arrived in Wellington from Australia, accompanied by Mrs. Xesbitt, will leave Auckland on Monday by the Mariposa on his return to England, via the United States of America. Mr. S. Mellows, secretary of the Ex-Royal Xaval Men's Association of New Zealand, with headquarters in Auckland, is visiting Dunedin. Mr. Mellows intends to meet former naval men there with the object of forming a branch of the association in that centre. Colonel the Hon. T. W. White, Commonwealth Minister for Trade and Customs, who hat been negotiating with the New Zealand Government regarding trade agreements, was a passenger by the Centaurus from Wellington to Auckland yesterday. He left to-day on a northern yachting cruise as the guest of Sir Ernest Davie. Colonel White will return to Sydney by the Centaurus on Monday.
