ROADWAY THROUGH DOMAIN.
ACCESS FROM STANLEY STREET
Although only a few weeks have heen •spent on the work, good progress has been made in the construction of the hew drive which is to connect Stanley Street with the roadway near the Domain ponds. After the holiday break the men engaged on the job will resume work on Monday, and further steady progress should be made. At the present rate the drive may be ready for use in fcix months' time.
The new road will provide quick and Convenient motor access to the Domain and 1o the War Memorial Museum. Starting near the lower end of th"* old footpath, it follows an S-shaped course, rising in moderate grades. At present the preliminary earthworks reach as far Ms a cutting which is being made into the brim of the hill.
The drive skirts the southern fringe of the Domain bush, and its formation is linked with the City Council's proposal to establish an aboretum on the •slopes of the reserve. Thirty men began the work about the end of November, the Government assisting with a wages subsidy of £1 a week per man for 17 weeks-
