OPENING FRANKTON SALE.j I ADVANCE IN SHEEP PRICES. j EASING TENDENCY IN BEEF. j The first fat stock sale of the New Year! was held at Frankton yesterday. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report that a medium yarding of fat wethers, fat ewes and fat lambs met with a ready sale at prices in advance of those ruling at the last sale held. Good quality prime fat wethers especially elicited very keen competition and showed an advance of over 2 per head. Prices were as follows: — Heavy prime wethers. 30/; lighter ditto, 27 : small fat two-tooths. 25,3 to 26 3; good fat ewes, 21 ; good fat lambs, 23 ; medium ditto, £1 1/ to £1 '2,3; light I lambs. 19 3. CATTLE FOR FIJI. NEW ZEALAND HEREFORDS. A fine consignment of Hereford cattle Mas recently shipped to Fiji on behalf of the Colonial Sugar Company through the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited. It consisted of four three-year-old horned bulls from the herd of the _ estate of the late Mr.; James McKenzie, of Masterton; four two-year-old horned bulls, bred by Mr. J. M. James, of Masterton, and three two-year-old horned aud one polled bull from Miss B. Donald, of Featherston. These animals were all splendid types of Hereford cattle, well marked and of rich red colour. Advice has just been received from the Islands that the cattle arrived in excellent condition, and it is anticipated thait the bulls recently forwarded will considerably improve the stock there. IMPORTED PEDIGREE BOAR. A well-known breeder of pedigree Large Black and Berkshire pigs, Mr. John Morgan, of Weraroa, Levin, recently acquired an outstanding young boar from the Hawkesbury i Agricultural College of New South Wales. This young boar is sired by the English imported boar Grafton Flashlight, from one of the top matrons in the Hawkesbury herd, Hawkesbury Bridget 3rd. He is from a litter of ten, and has great length with good markings.
