The Canterbury Plunket Shield team arrived from Wellington this morning and joined the Obagoans at .the Station HotelAll the former province's match with Wellington ended a day early it was decided to start yesterday for Auckland, where the player* sa-w their Christmas conquerors finish their game against the 1936-37 New Zealand champions this morning.

The twelve pflayers on tour are I B Cromb (captain), W. A. Hadlee, rL J. Read, E. T. Mulcock, E. A. Gasson, J.' Jacobs, 0. N. Stokee, R. E. J. Menziee D. A- N. Mcßae, R. C. Webb, N. Burtt' K. C. Shand.

Cromb, Hadlee and Read are NewZealand representatives. The former went Home with the 1931 team, Hadlee has just returned with the 1937 side, and Read played in both In ate lies against Victor Richardson's Australians.

The first Test ten years ago took place at Auckland, where W. M. Woodfull scored 284. Read did not take a wicket, but he bowled the 1930 and 1934 Australian Test captain at Dunedin, and also had W. A. Oldfield caught. The two wickets were taken at a total cost of 30 runs. Australia won both —an innings, and seven wickets.

Of the new members in the Canterbury side two of the younger generation of batsmen are Menzies (Old Boys) and Stokes (Sydenham). The latter was topscorer for either side in the match at Basin Reserve. Another colt is R. C. Shand, who waa twelfth man for the Otago and Wellington matches, and is likely to get a game against Auckland at Eden Park on Friday. Gaaeon, like Read, still another Sydenham player, took part in the Christmas 1924 match against Auckland at Lancaster Park, and the New Year 1926 contest at Eden Park. He exceeded 20 in three of his four innings.

Burtt replaced R. E. Alexander at the last moment for the engagement with Otago, and (with four wickets) was the most successful bowler in the first innings. Webb, the wicketkeeper, like most men in that position these days, is quite a useful batsman. SHEFFIELD SHIELD. WINS FOR N.S.W. AND VICTORIASYDNEY, January 4. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match against New South Wales to-day Queensland, in the second innings, made 131 runs (Coats 18, Cook 28).

McCabe took two wickets for 16 and O'Reilly four for 45.

New South Wales, in the second innings, made 99 for two wickets (B. McCauley 49 not out, Oldfield 42 not out). New South Wales, won by eight wickets. In the Sheffield Shield match at Melbourne against Victoria, South Australia in tlheir second innings made 356 runs (Robinson 62, Hamence 64, Waite 51, Grimmett 31). Fleetwood-Smith took three wickets for 137, Gregory two for 46, and McCormick two for 91.

Victoria, in their second innings, lost four wickets for 144 (Lee 34, Ledward 58 not out). Ward -took two wickets for 40 Victoria won on the first innings by 60 rune.
