BAG SNATCHED.
TWO MEN RAN AWAY.
ANOTHER GAVE CHASE. S.M. GRANTS PROBATION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Ward Poynder Curtis, aged 26, a motor driver, was admitted to probation for two years by Mr. J. H. Lux ford, S.M., on a charge of bag-snatching, to which he had pleaded guilty. Joyce Harper gave evidence that while waiting for a man in (Srey Street, and just as she saw him coming on the other side, two men came suddenly from behind her and snatched her bag. She ran after them up Featlierston Street to Lambton Quay, and then went back. She and her friend went along and saw the two men in Brandon Street. Her friend gave chase and she followed. The three men ran on to the wharf, and she afterwards saw Curtis walk off and hand lier bag to a constable.
Constable McEachern. who was on the wharf, said he saw the three men run on. He noticed that Curtis had a handbag, and followed and caught him just as he was about to trv to throw it a way.
Curtis said he had had a few drinks. It was an impulsive act. He had never been in trouble before. He gave the magistrate the name of the man with him.
Tlie value of the bag was set down at £1 5/ and it contained £1 14/0 in money.
